Summary of the activities:
The 2017 NYRIA workshop gathered 27 people from various locations. Informal presentation of the attendees on the first evening. The morning sessions were dedicated to 20min talks from each attendee to present their on-going research and extended coffee breaks and trigger disussions and collaborations between the attendees. The afternoon sessions were dedicated to invited talks and activites: Pierre Léna gave us a talk on "The revolutions of observations in Astrophysics".
Fascinating discussion with Pierre Léna about his career in instrumentation for astrophysics.
Visits of the laboratories at LESIA: PicSat,THD bench
Visit of the historical Paris observatory, including the Arago telescope
Arago refractive telescope.
The last morning was dedicated to a round table with Guy Perrin and Pierre Baudoz, after a presentation about the timeline of construction of the telescopes by Gabriele Rodighiero. The discussion was focused on "How to build an instrument today", with an emphasis on the big projects such as ELTs, gathering different countries and expertise.
Understanding the jargon behind the instrument design.
The slides of the Wrap-up session closing the meeting can be found here.
Final word for a successful workshop !

We would like to warmly thanks our two funding parts, ASHRA and CIAS. In particular, David Mouillet for his trust in our project and Gérard Rousset and Yann Clénet for hosting us at LESIA. Thanks to Nicole Letourneur from CIAS, we benefited from amazing coffee breaks in the beautiful Urania room, which really helped creating nice interactions within the group. We also would like to thanks the Observatoire de Paris and Nicolas Lesté-Lasserre for providing us full access to the Observatoire de Paris for the historical visit of the site. We of course would like to thanks the speakers for sharing their time with us and for fruitful discussions: Pierre Léna, Guy Perrin, Pierre Baudoz and all the researchers from the LESIA who took their time to make us visit their optical labs.
